Don't Let Him Fool You

Doc may pretend to be a little grumpy. He may put forth the facade of being surly or irritated.

Don't let him fool you. Because let's face it, it's all an act (usually). And one thing is for certain, he is really smitten when it comes to this kitten because look what he got me for Christmas...

See? I told you he's crazy about me! Even when my hair is all funky and I'm broken out like a teenager (just keeping it real, folks).

As you can see, I'm thrilled about it! I've been wanting a kitchen aid mixer FOR-EV-ER. Or at least since we got married (which will be 10 years in May). And this is the BIG DADDY professional mixer of my dreams!

My Mother-In-Law was just as excited about it as I was!

She loves me, too. Enough to tell Doc, "You got her this new mixer and now she needs a new kitchen to go with it!" God bless her very big heart! She may be the best MIL in the world!

And let's face it, I'm one blessed woman to have them both in my life. And now a kitchen aid mixer, too! Really...what more could a girl ask for?

A Priceless Gift from Birdie

Have you seen this commercial? Birdie showed me this precious piece of television happiness...

Then later, she gave me this Christmas gift (based on the commercial because she is super creative and talented like that)...

The basket had laughs...

A Hug (which looks exactly like the ones in the commercial and is so soft you can't help but hug it!)...

And Mellow Moments because Birdie knows I'm secretly a lush. Only not really (about the secretly part.)

Sweet dreams which Doc will be dreaming about for days because they had his favorite things in them (white chocolate chips and coconut)...

Happy Smiles...

which definitely brought a smile to my face. YUM...

Then came the Contented Sighs...

MMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm...Ahhhhhh....her toffee is my FAVORITE!

And the point of it all...our friendship which is rooted and grounded in the Lord is PRICELESS! AMEN, Sister!

Birdie is really a blessing and gift from God. And she helps me remember James 1:17 "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."

And isn't that the point of giving and receiving gifts for Christmas? To help us remember that God sent His son to save the world...THAT is the most precious gift of all!

Snow, Magical Snow

Do you remember being a kid? Do you remember what it was like to look out the window and see the snowflakes start falling? Do you remember praying that there would be enough snow on the ground to play in it?

Snow is magical. It cleans up the world and makes everything shiney for a little while.

Lou Lou was enlightening S.G. about the ways of winter. She told him, "If enough snow falls, we can go out and play in it."

"Right, Mom?"

"Right, Lou, but it will be after Bub gets back from preschool!" Then S.G. said, "Mommy, yook. Santa wif a pwesent."

After Bub was home, there was enough snow to play outside for a little while...

Snow must be one of the reasons this is called the "most wonderful time of the year!"

Visions of Sugarplums for Lou Lou's Bedroom

I always wanted to go to sleep on Christmas Eve and have "visions of sugarplums dance in my head." Never mind that I was combining the "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies" with dreams about fruit covered in sugar....all I knew is that it would be a magical (and sweet) dream.

Since I never had those dreams appear, I did my best to give my daughter, Lou Lou, my best interpretation of the magic of sugarplums and sugarplum fairies as her Christmas decor in her bedroom.

I found the most sugarplum fairy-ish picture of her and framed it. Then I put it on her mantle with apothecary jars and candy jars filled to the brim with candies of all kinds! Then I put a greenery swag on the fireplace and tucked some fairies in the greenery to dance the night away!

I hung LOTS of tulle from the curtain behind her bed and strung lights and ribbon in with it.

Then to give it that fairy-ish look, I found her Tinkerbell costume and hung it right in the middle.

Her Christmas tree was filled with ribbon candy, garland with taffy, lollipops and anything I could get my hands on that was sweet! (Note: You may not want to include real candy as half of the garland was missing after a few weeks and little brother Bub was caught red handed on several occasions hiding out in Lou's room eating candy when no one was looking.) I topped the Christmas tree with the cardboard angel that hung on my parent's tree when I was a kid. I love her and she is blissful childhood memories wrapped up with fake hair and a pipe cleaner halo.

This is what the room looks like at night...

It makes me want to give those dreams another try! Or maybe just lay in there and pretend I'm 7 again!

Come On In. I'll Show You Around! (Part 2)

I left you, at the end of the last post, on the stairs. So lets go on up and I'll show you the bedrooms!

Here is our master bedroom. I love, love, love it!

My favorite part of our bedroom is the picture above the mantle that was taken on our wedding day! It sets the mood...ahh, romance!

Speaking of romance...and it's's the nursery.

The horse ornaments were formerly on a mobile and the little drummer set was on lone from Doc's mom. It is a precious childhood memory!

My grandma, Nana, as my kid's call her, made this wall hanging!

This is the kids' bathroom!

This is Bub's room. He is totally into trains, planes and automobiles. For a long time his nightly prayers always ended with, "Thanks for trains, coal cars, fire engines, and helpiclopters. Amen."

Here is his matchbox car tree.

Now let's go up another flight of stairs. This is where my children (and their cousins) wait to be set free to run downstairs Christmas morning and see what Santa has brought!

At the top of the stairs you'll find this little cabinet with some snacks for guests.

More pictures of the hallway area!

A book shelf stocked with kid books and a cozy place to read them!

This is the "cabin" room. The wallpaper was here when we moved in and I tried to work with it!

Here's the next bedroom...its theme is "He's got the whole world in His hands."

Next is Lou Lou's room with visions of sugar plums dancing around...

Our little tour ends in the "Americana" room. A little patriotic nod to Christmas and our country!

This room houses my collection of little white churches. I try to find one every year. The one that is glowing a shade of pinky-orange is an antique that is almost exactly like one Nana has at her house!

I hope you enjoyed the tour! Check back a little later in the week for a more "in depth" post on Lou Lou's room with all its visions of sugar plum fun!
