Is He Sweet or An Evil Genius?

If you read my last post, you know that Bub is not on my good list. He has been particularly ornery lately. He's pushing boundaries as if he doesn't even know they are there, just to get a reaction. He is, in short, being a stinker. Thankfully, I've been through this before. It is a phase, a growing of independence and individuality, which will make him a stronger person, if we both make it through the process alive. At this point, that is questionable.

After all, he does things like this...

Anyway, in all the struggle, there are moments of love and glimpses of hope that come out of him. I consider them gifts, things to cling to when I want to send him packin' with his little backpack full of green sprinkles to eat when he gets hungry. One particular "gift" came the other morning. We were in the kitchen and I was getting him breakfast. He looked at me and said...

"Mom, when I was a baby in your tummy, you and Daddy loved me and when I got older, I SURE loved you."

I gave him a squeeze and said, "You are absolutely right, Bub! We love each other a lot, don't we?"

See, there is hope! Right?! I'm just hoping that the smart little booger hasn't figured out that sweet talk goes a long way with Mommies. He could just be trying to buy a little "no spank insurance" with all that sweetness. I can just picture him celebrating his evil genius scheme with a victory dance...

Ummm...speaking of Bub, I think I better go find him....he's being awfully quiet. That is usually a bad sign.

Bub has THAT kind of little-boy energy that CJ relishes and frankly, frightens me. God has graced him with that wit, charm, and BIG blue eyes to save him from you!

I have a "Bub" at my house, too, and so far he's lived to see his 13th birthday, and that's sayin' something! I used to lock myself if the bathroom when he was 3 and just pray for a double-dose of grace to know how to get through the day.

But these guys are always the funny ones and the charmers. He's is SUCH a great kid and none of the teenage troubles you hear so much about. Maybe they get it out of their systems early. Hang in there, sister!

Our little stinker! I can only imagine the stories our boys will tell when they are grown. Remember when we did that?

I'm nervous! :)

LOL..I know exactly what you mean! Caleb drives me absolutely crazy sometimes and the next moment he tells me that he's going to love me forever...I think God knows we need these little "moments" of sweetness...

Yup...you are going to have some stories for sure. I can't prove it scripturally, but I think Bub has a "team" of guardian angels...not just one.

You know something, DW? You are the perfect mom for Bub (and all your kiddos) and it is so cool to watch you be a mom. Good stuff. I love you.
