Star Wars: The Current Obsession

The kids were introduced to Star Wars at an early age but the boys are just now grasping the depth of coolness that is Star Wars. They are going to have a Star Wars birthday party in October. They are dressing up for Halloween as Darth Vader and Yoda. Anything with Star Wars on it is the ultimate cool. We found Bub this shirt at Old Navy and he was in hog heaven...

Southern Gentleman may be taking things a little too far with his obsession. We made the mistake of buying his Halloween costume early and he tried it on when we got home. Since then, the Yoda hat has become part of his daily apparel.

Since he is my 3rd kid and I've already discovered that I'm not the perfect parent and never will be, I allow him to do things I would never have allowed Lou to do. Like go to Wal-Mart in a Yoda hat...

I got more than a few strange looks but at least he made some people laugh and brightened their day!

Yoda checked out the vitamins (I wondered if he was feeling bad...he did look a little green) and then he checked out the toys.

Then he moved on to the books. He looked and looked but couldn't find exactly what he was looking for until...

He finally hit the jackpot.

So...how many days until Halloween?

Just found your blog via the sidebar at My Sister's Farmhouse. The title of this post caught my eye, and I thought I'd give you fair warning: for some boys, this stage never ends. I've agreed to be Princess Leia to my boyfriend's Han Solo this Halloween. And a friend who's attending the same party ordered a full Anakin (in episode 3 when he's already turned pretty evil) costume from somewhere online, and wears parts of it around the house daily. We're all more or less grown adults.

Just thought I'd give you a taste of what the future may hold as your boys grow up :) And I, in turn, will be imagining my future children in Yoda hats years from now.

I recently gave up the need for my children to always look presentable when going out. I regularly let Austin (the youngest) go to the store in overall shorts, rubber 'muck' boots and a camouflage hat.
My bigger kids are a bit jealous that they were not afforded this same creative freedom in clothing choices as younger children. Chase has finally convinced me that "they are only little once and they can get away with it at this age"
It is true, he brings smiles to so many elderly when we're out as they recall younger days when they had children who made such shocking fashion choices. I just smile, nod and say "at this age everything looks cute!"
