New House Decorating Thoughts

So, we've gotten all moved in. At least all of our stuff is here. I now realize that the accessories and stuff that sat around my house in the small town doesn't do much for this house. That house was far more traditional having been built in the 1920's. This one is new, neutral and a big blank canvas. So I'm left with a clean slate and am trying to figure out where to go from here.

This house feels like it should sit on a lake. It is on 5 acres with a big sweeping window in the living room. Doc and I feel like it lends itself to a more "cabinish" or "lodgey" look but how do you do that without going overboard on the cheese factor. I don't want fishing poles hanging on the wall when we don't have a lake to fish in. You know, I want it to be us and real but still jive with the property and bones of the house.

I told Doc that I want it to look like Ralph Lauren. Classic America. A little of this....

A little of this (can you say juxtaposition, boys and girls)...

Mostly this...
And a dash of that...
Now, what does that translate into for decor? Well, fortunately the man also designs home decor!

Here is our starting point..

Entryway. Love the light fixture. Not crazy about the door but it works and it stays for now.

.

Here's the view in from the entryway...

And the dining room...

Now, here's what I've found from Mr. Lauren that inspires me...
1. leather chairs with red and black plaid (I also dig the wicker dining chairs)

2. Native American type tapestries (again lots of red)!

3. Leopard prints thrown in here and there

4. Pheasant feathers (we had one run across the front yard the other day!)

Now, does that sound like an odd mix or what? But I think it works! Weird, quirky and strangely classic.

Here's what we have going for us...

I'm thinking that I could change out the heavy plaid and tapestry look for quilts in the spring and summer with lighter and brighter colors. And also, we must have denim. I think it would work!

Oh, how my wheels are a turnin'.

I'm linking up to Melissa's Inspired Room. Go get inspired!

Love that you are posting! Yeah, the house is a HUGE change. But, you have the basics. Love your inspiration rooms. You could easily recreate and seasonally redecorate. :-) What a fun problems to be facing. :-)

I'm really likin' the combo, I think you need to do some more tanning to get YOUR leather look going...OK, that wasn't funny. I like the quilts into the mix, quirky!
